Manchester United’s positive trend must stop in the 2022/2023 Premier League. Man United could only get one point in the postponed match of Week 7 which took place on Thursday (19/1/2023) WIB.

Man United drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Man United had taken the lead through Bruno Fernandes’ goal in the 44th minute, then equalized by Michael Olise’s direct free kick in the 90+1 minute.

This one additional point failed to lead Man United to overtake Man City in the standings. Both teams have the same points, namely 39 points.

As for Palace, this one point at least secures them in 12th place. Palace have collected 23 points from 12 matches.

First round

The first 15 minutes were equal for both teams. Man United, who were dominant with the ball, were not free to attack, but Palace repeatedly

Weghorst finally got his first chance to score in the 31st minute. Luke Shaw’s cross was met by his towering body with a header. The direction is just not right to the goal.

Palace had a chance in the 40th minute through Edouard. He escaped from control and faced one on one with David de Gea. Fortunately, Man United’s goal was safe thanks to the goalkeeper’s save.

Man United were finally able to break the deadlock in the 44th minute. Bruno Fernandes maximized the opportunities he got in the Palace penalty box. His kick slid smoothly into the goal which was escorted by Vicente Guaita.

Man United ended the first 45 minutes with 10 shots from 63 percent possession. Palace itself could only release three shots.

Second round

Palace started the second half relying on the speed of their players. This method forced the Man United players to commit many violations to stop the host’s attack scheme.

The first ten minutes seemed to belong to The Eagles. Attack after attack was successfully built against Man United.

In this second half, Man United became inferior even though they still controlled a lot of ball possession. Palace was able to release a total of five shots, while Man United only three times.

Palace really had a chance to equalize in the 75th minute. Marc Guehi’s header was fortunately saved by De Gea.

Palace finally really happy in the 90+1 minute. Michael Olise’s free kick failed to be saved by De Gea and the match ended in a draw.
